James' Part 1

George Dodge a 70 year old man was being interviewed by Rosaline Smith. Mr. Dodge's interview took place in his home in Worthington, Massachusettes on Jaunary 24, 1939. Mr. Dodge was a Yankee Odd Job Man and a mason and carpenter by trade. He was talking about how young people don't appreciate things these days. "The present generation have too much. They don't appreciate anything." He lived through the difficult times of the depression. He said the Great Depression of 1930 was nothing compared to the depression right after the Civil War. It sounded like Mr. Dodge had no regrets for living during hard times. He was glad that he lived in the calmer days.

This picture shows how people had to work very hard to get money. Even though times were hard and they did not get a lot of money people wanted what they could get. People worked hard for the money and sometimes it paid off and sometimes it did not.
